Somehow I thought that after the baby was born I would have hours of downtime.  Since this has taken me a month to finally write/ post, clearly that is not the case!  I can barely find the time to get one or two meals in, let alone clean the house, do the endless laundry that keeps piling up, or write a blog post!  Life with 2 littles is busy!

Weston's Birth Story:

On Sunday, Feb 26th I woke up at 3am to contractions.  I'd been having contractions often for awhile so I wasn't really concerned, except these felt different. And by different, I mean painful.  There were also a few other clues that made me think "today is the day!" My contractions were every 10 minutes... for the next 12 hours.  At 3pm they started to really increase in intensity and went to every 5 minutes.  This is when I wished I'd packed my hospital bag ahead of time.  I knew I still had plenty of time, but packing during contractions just sucks.  over the next few hours they just got more painful.  By 7:30 they were getting unbearable and I decided I was ready to go to the hospital.  When they checked me in and told me I was only at 2cm I was devastated.  I'd been at this for 17 hours at this point and I was at 2cm!  They wouldn't let me get an epidural until I hit 5cm so I spent the next two hours "moving around" and taking a long hot shower.  It was around 11pm before I got the epidural and about an hour before it was actually working.  It was heaven when it finally kicked in! Once I was able to relax a little things started moving pretty quick.  I felt the baby move down into position and an hour later a midwife came in and said I was ready to push!  I was SO excited, this was really happening!  I pushed for maybe 20 minutes before the nurses checked me and told me I needed to stop and I was NOT fully dilated.  This was bad, because they'd turned off my epidural to push and now the baby was really low and putting a ton of pressure on my low back.  The pain was so bad I think I started to go into shock.  I started shaking uncontrollably and throwing up and the baby went into distress.  The Dr came in and said we needed to do an emergency C-section "right now!"  I couldn't believe I'd made it that far and I was going to have a C-section.  In my pain induced frantic state I yelled "no, I'm not having a c-section" and to my shock, the Dr turned to the nurse and said "document patient denies suggested C-section." I didn't even know I could do that!  The Dr told me I was putting my baby's life at risk, but I just knew that he was in distress because I was in distress.  I threw on the oxygen mask and started taking deep slow breaths.  The baby's heart rate regulated and the Dr checked me and said I was at 10cm and could push when I was ready.  Three pushes later, Weston was born! And as I held my brand new baby, for the second time in my life, my heart filled with more love and joy than I knew possible.

Life Since:

We came home the day after Weston was born.  I was pretty eager to get out of the hospital and since I didn't have a C-section and was able to move around.  We've spent the last month adjusting to being a family of 4.  Trying to keep Hudson's routine as "normal" as possible and balancing an unpredictable new family member that could be sleeping, hungry, or crying at anytime.
Hudson is a great big brother.  He loves to "pet" his baby brother and is so sweet with him.  He's growing up so fast lately and gaining independence by the day.  Weston is growing a lot too... but in other ways.  He looks so much like Hudson did when he was born, but he is such a different baby. It's been a whole new learning curve.  I don't know where the time is going, I can't believe its already been a whole month.  I'm loving this time, but also sad its going so fast.
